Late 19th/Early 20th Lay Figure
A finely carved late 19th/early 20th century articulated artist’s mannequin. Origin Val Gardena, Itay. Measuring 13 inches high, this beautifully rendered lay figure was designed as a studio tool for academic artists, allowing for study of human anatomy and proportion in a wide range of poses.
Hand-carved from solid wood with a warm natural patina, the figure features pegged joints at shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles. The face is delicately modelled with almond-shaped eyes and subtle features - a characteristic of earlier and better-quality lay figures.
A striking and rare decorative object - perfect for collectors or people who just love something a bit different.
